GREEN Community Garden

GreenInterested in a garden but don’t have the space?  United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties is proud to partner with Local Roots and Town & Country Co-op to present a Community Garden again this year.  Individuals who are 200% or below the poverty line are encouraged to participate.  They will receive a growing kit with seeds and tools and will attend gardening classes and learn from Garden Mentors about how they can grow their own healthy food.

Other individuals are encouraged to participate as well if they’ve dreamed of a garden but just don’t have the space!  Based on interest and space, we will add as many plots as we can!

If you are interested in volunteering  your time or expertise in the garden, we welcome you as well!  In addition, we are encouraging anyone with leftover seeds, plants or gardening tools that they are no longer using to drop them off at Local Roots.

Opportunities to volunteer:

    • Join us for a Clean-Up Day on May 26th at 9:00am!  We need your hands and your help.
    • Join us for a Planting Day on June 2nd (time TBA)!

If you are interested, please contact Tiffany Leeper at 330-264-5576 or tleeper@uwwayneholmes.org.  Download Garden Information and Sign Up Sheet for more information.

For those interested in a plot, there will be an informational meeting and basic gardening class on May 24th at 6:00pm at Local Roots Market.  This class is required for anyone wishing to receive a free plot and growing kit.  Please contact the United Way (tleeper@uwwayneholmes.org or 330-264-5576) or return the above forms before this meeting to reserve your plot.

Gardens Revitalize, Educate and Energize Neighborhoods (GREEN) – Driven by United Way, Town & Country Co-Op & Local Roots, this program provides low-income individuals and families the opportunity to plant, prepare and produce a bountiful harvest of vegetables in their own garden plot located on North Street in downtown Wooster and another location in Doylestown.
